Langford History Soc Crest
Langford History Society

Langford History Society was founded in 1983 and is a small, friendly village society.

Our meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday of every month (except August) starting at 8.00pm and are fairly informal.

The venue is St Andrew’s Church Hall in Church Street Langford. (The hall stands in front of the parish church and opposite the school and has adequate car parking.)

New members are welcome. Our annual membership fee is £4 per person with £1 entry fee to each meeting. Download an application form here.

Visitors are very welcome and pay £1.50 at the door (except for the December meeting when there is an extra charge to cover supper and drinks).

A full programme of talks is arranged each year. In 2010 we had talks on the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Bedford, Ivel Navigation, Memories of Kayser Bondor, a social evening, a visit to the Letchworth Heritage Museum and a talk on the Palace of Westminster by the former librarian of the House of Commons. At our October meeting we played host to suffragette leader Emmeline Pankhurst (as portrayed by Louise Reed) who advised us on what to wear to ‘rush’ the House of Commons and what life was like for women in Holloway Prison. Our November speaker told of the now vanished world of Fleet Street as it was 50 years ago and the last meeting of the year was our very enjoyable social evening.

The full programme up to the end of 2011 is on our programme page.
